Engaging the Community - Community Projects

The Apostolic Church (Australia) in Queensland see community projects as a way that churches can connect and contribute to their community, as well as a to raise funds to support their ministry. Therefore the State Leadership Team (S.L.T.) endeavours to provide support, resources and coaching to churches who want to establish projects such as: “Your Coffee Kart Ministry”, Food Aid projects, Op Shop, Play groups and other ventures. The overviews of the projects that follow highlight some of the benefits of engaging in community projects.

Your Coffee Cart Ministry

From catering for indoor & outdoor sporting venues, school functions such as fetes & fairs, Your Coffee Cart is a self funding ministry. We can show you how to maximize the potential of Your Coffee Cart in the community and schools. Your Coffee Cart is a great way to assist in supporting Chaplaincy in your local school, as well as providing a meeting place for parents and families to gather – an ideal place for the church to be.

Food Aid projects

Someone has said, “The value of a community, can only be judged by how it looks after those who are most disadvantaged amongst us”. Food Aid aims to help those in the community who are in financial crisis and who need food. Once appropriate identification has been made (a receipt is necessary for legal reasons), a donation is required for each box of groceries to help keep the operation running effectively. Through the Food Aid project the local church is able to reach those who are in need, and at the same time fulfil the Bible directive of caring for the poor.

Opportunity Shop

The Opportunity Shop sells pre-loved clothing, bric-a-brac and furniture.  It services a wide variety of customers, at very reasonable prices.

At the same time as raising funds for the work of the local Church, the shop can also support community orientated programs that assist youth, and families. The Opportunity Shop is another wonderful link in engaging the community.

Playgroups

Playgroup is an informal session where parents, carers, babies and children aged 0 to school age comes together in a relaxed and friendly environment. Playgroup gives children an opportunity to have fun, make new friends and develop new skills through informal play, as well as provide parents and carers with an opportunity to meet others in similar circumstances, to make friends and share ideas and experiences.

Playgroups are usually held 1 to 3 times a week for a two hour session, and are completely self funding. They provide a wonderful link between the church and the community, as well as serving a vital role for the new mum by giving her access to talk with others who share, or have shared, similar experiences.
